Tower of Ivory II Relief Wall Sculpture
Stoneware wall relief sculpture of the Blessed Virgin Mary praying the rosary. 49”x22”. Originally sculpted by hand, the piece was 3D scanned, enlarged and 3D printed in clay. Other design accents were added to make the work unique from the original. All of the design and work was created by the artist Michael Fuller himself. The title Tower of Ivory is a reference to one of the titles of the Virgin Mary in her Litany. Her form has been made taller in fashion to look more as a towering figure and the assembled pieces helps to exaggerate the architectural nature of bricks forming a tower. The image was split indiscriminately to form the bricks solely based on the over all dimensions of the whole. One of the lines ended up splitting part of her face. Many different analogies can be made from how the splits become part of the iconography. The rosary in her hand is changing from black to white as she is making her way through the prayer. May the Blessed Virgin Mary pray for us to her Son Jesus Christ.
